As IT organizations embrace virtualization and cloud technologies to more rapidly address the business needs of their organizations the storage team is too frequently viewed as an anchor holding back progress. By shifting the day to day provisioning and management of storage from a the storage team to the system, or cloud, managing storage with code, rather than humans clicking through GUIs and arcane CLIs is a key to an agile infrastructure.

With the storage team relieved of the drudgery of day to day provisioning, they can turn their appropriately paranoid minds to more strategic architectural issues such like multi-site replication or how to store the data from all those new video cameras.

    This session will explore:

    • Application specific storage for Oracle and VDI
    • Restful APIs for Storage
    • Integrating storage management with hypervisors and cloud platform
      • Hyper-convergence
      • Controlling external storage with vSphere Virtual Volumes (Vvol)
      • OpenStack Cinder
    • The remaining place for the storage admin
      • Defining policies
