The landscape in IT is shifting albeit slowly. Much of this shift is due in part to emergence of economically-priced on-demand Infrastructure-as-a-Service. Development teams now have great latitude to leverage the likes of Amazon Web Service and Microsoft Azure for development and testing. Unfortunately, still, for many large- and mid-sized enterprises this latitude does not translate into production deployment and operations.

CIOs and those charged with running IT Operations are challenged to deliver secure, audited, and reliable compute environments for the applications and data for the business. Behind the scenes these tasks are often accomplished by following onerous time-consuming processes and often the management of these environments and processes will be outsourced to multiple IT service providers. In addition, the division of work is often siloed into traditional "towers" that are not well integrated for cross-functional purposes. So, when traditional IT Service Management (ITSM) meets the cloud, and equally, DevOps, there is invariably going to be conflict.

    • Can stodgy old traditional IT ever operate and deliver services at the speed of modern cloud service providers?
    • What does IT have to do to demonstrate competence to the business in these areas?
    • How can this work when there are multiple outsourced IT service providers?
    • How are emerging data center technologies changing the game?

This session will explore the impact of the API economy, Service Integration & Management (SIAM), and a growing software-defined infrastructure on the next generation of IT operations and steps enterprise IT can take to deliver greater agility to the business without sacrificing the value that they provide.
