These days, automation is an increasingly interesting topic in nearly every technology discipline. Everywhere you look, there's discussion and debate about tooling, practices, skill set evolution, and more - but little conversation about fundamentals. What little is published by those actually practicing automation, usually takes the form of source code or technical whitepapers that describe their particular implementation.

While these are obviously valuable in their own right, they don't usually cover some of the fundamental basics that could prove useful to the reader who wishes to roll out automation in their own organization. Automation isn't a one-size-fits-all proposition, and those IT professionals may be asking themselves "I don't have the resources of the big hyperscale companies; how can I make sure that my specific automation projects are going in the right direction?"

This talk will answer that question and more, by exploring the "Principles of Automation". These principles are not specific to any one technology discipline, tool, or programming language; they are fundamental principles that you can follow, regardless of the implementation, to ensure you are on the track to automation success. In this session, these principles will be illustrated with some fun, interactive examples, as well as real-world scenarios.

This is a good session to attend if you're totally new to automation, or any related technologies. Attendees should expect to leave this session with a solid grasp of the fundamental concepts of automation, and the ability to explore specific automation technologies more deeply.
