To align IT with fast-growth businesses, the forefront option for many companies is to undergo a transition from a traditional to a software-defined data center (SDDC). The programmatic capabilities of an SDDC will soon be considered a requirement for large enterprises that seek to implement a DevOps approach and a hybrid cloud model.

David Giambruno, Chief Information Officer at Shutterstock, will discuss how taking infrastructure out of the way for development and product teams, enables faster product production and more agile businesses. He will focus on his endeavor toward "indiscriminate computing," in which infrastructure becomes invisible to developers, allowing them to focus on rapidly producing and shipping code without worrying about what it's running on.

    Key Points:

    1. Virtualize Everything- Legacy infrastructure can often curb even the keenest of IT architects. Virtualizing servers, storage and networking allows the creation pools of computing resources that can be dynamically provisioned.
    2. Clean Data is Key- Turning company data into information that people can use allows the company to continue to grow.
    3. Do Not Migrate- Set up a new SDDC and move some things onto it gradually; it's easy to overestimate the ability to change things in flight.

Although implementation and adoption can be daunting and laborious, an SDDC makes it easier for companies to automate software production, allowing IT organizations and service providers to respond quicker to business demands and provide value. In this talk, David will share best practices and lessons learned in his experience leading a major data center transformation.
